With this purpose in mind, New England Bible College has formulated plans to develop in its students a deepening spiritual maturity, an intimate knowledge of the Bible, a compassionate understanding of people, a ready skill to minister effectively, and an ongoing desire to learn.
DEVELOPING A DEEPENING SPIRITUAL MATURITY
New England Bible College recognizes the importance of assisting in the development of the spiritual maturity of our students, because they will be the Christian leaders of the future. Therefore our curriculum includes courses specifically designed to encourage spiritual growth. Our faculty and staff model spiritual maturity in their daily life, and our weekly chapel service encourages students to worship the Lord with their heart and mind. Additionally all continuing students are required to participate in an area of Christian service. These service assignments challenge the students to mature in areas of life that they might not have encountered otherwise.
DEVELOPING A KNOWLEDGE OF THE WORD OF GOD
New England Bible College recognizes that God calls certain individuals to minister his message to the world of people, so that all may hear God's message. It is necessary that these individuals be well trained in reading and understanding the Bible. Therefore, our curriculum requires the student to complete at least 45 hours of intensive Bible and Theology courses. These courses are organized in a progressive way, allowing the student to increasingly develop skills in understanding and interpreting the Bible. Such skill is developed as the student learns about the ancient world in which the Bible was written, and the way the message of the Bible develops progressively from Genesis to Revelation.
DEVELOPING AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE WORLD OF PEOPLE
New England Bible College recognizes that a person called to minister the Word of God to the world of people must know something about those people to whom God has sent them. Therefore our curriculum requires that each student complete at least 36 hours of course work involving a general study of the world of people. These courses reveal how and why people think and act in certain ways. The student is exposed to the major historical and cultural influences that have shaped the lives of people. As the student better understands how and why people think and act, they will better understand what God desires to say to these people from His word and how their lives can be better lived. The student will also be better able to be more compassionate and understanding toward people.
DEVELOPING SKILLS FOR THE WORK OF MINISTRY
New England Bible College recognizes the need for developing the ability to minister the Word of God in a variety of ways to children and seniors, to baby boomers and baby busters, to the down and outers and the up and coming, to the educated and to the uneducated. Therefore our curriculum requires that the student complete at least 18 hours of courses that develop specific ministry skills. These courses develop the student's abilities in preaching, teaching, and counseling. Although each student is required to develop several skills to facilitate the ministry of the Word of God effectively to a wide variety of people, each student will also be able to focus on one area of specialization. These areas include pastoral ministry, missions ministry, educational ministry, and preparation for further academic work.
DEVELOPING A DESIRE FOR LIFE-LONG LEARNING
New England Bible College recognizes that the student's education has only begun when they graduate from the College. We recognize that no person can master the Bible in a lifetime. We also recognize that the world will have changed dramatically in 20-30 years. The situations and circumstances encountered in ministry in the year 2020 will be very different from the year 2000. There will be new and different questions facing us then. It will be necessary for our students to have developed a desire and an ability to continue learning in order to face these new challenges. Therefore our curriculum is designed to provide a solid foundation for a lifetime of study. |
