Purpose of New England Bible College

New England Bible College exists to partner with local churches in preparing students for service to God through Great Commission ministry. We strive to produce graduates who exhibit deepening spiritual maturity, a growing knowledge of the Bible, a compassionate understanding of people, the ability to minister effectively, and a lifelong desire for learning.

Developing a deepening spiritual maturity

The Bible describes the Christian life as a lifelong process, beginning with a new birth, being nurtured from milk to meat, and developing in growth and maturity of faith. The Bible demands that Christian leaders be well along in their spiritual maturity.

New England Bible College recognizes the importance of assisting in the spiritual maturity of our students, because they will be the Christian leaders of the future. Therefore our curriculum includes courses specifically designed to encourage spiritual growth. Our faculty and staff model spiritual maturity in their daily life, and our weekly chapel services encourage students to worship the Lord with their heart and mind. Additionally all students are required to participate in Christian service which helps students mature and give opportunity to practice what is learned in the classroom.

Developing a knowledge of the Word of God

The Bible is God's message to mankind that reveals who He is and what He has done in creating this world and placing us in it. God tells us how to be properly related to Himself, to other people, and to the whole creation. As such, life cannot be lived properly without an understanding of God's message to us in the Bible.

New England Bible College recognizes that God calls certain individuals to minister his message to the world. For effective ministry a growing knowledge of the Bible is fundamental. Therefore, our curriculum requires each student to complete a major in biblical studies. Students undertake serious academic study of the Bible, learning to faithfully interpret Scripture and to effectively communicate the message of the Bible to others.

Developing an understanding of the world of people

The Bible is God's message for mankind, and God has called certain individuals to speak that message. But there are many different kinds of people in the world, holding many different beliefs and opinions, possessing different abilities and handicaps, and living in very different situations and circumstances.

New England Bible College recognizes that a person called to minister the Word of God to the world of people must know something about those people. Therefore, the general education requirements of the academic curriculum serve to develop in our students a compassionate understanding of people. Coursework in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences help students to understand themselves, and others from a cultural and historical perspective, so that our graduates will be able to effectively communicate godly wisdom to a world in need.

Developing skills for the work of ministry

The ability to minister effectively flows out of a knowledge of the Bible and a compassionate understanding of people. It is imperative that graduates of New England Bible College have the ability to do effective ministry according to the gifts and calling God has given them.

Therefore, our curriculum prepares students to recognize their gifts and calling, and to develop the skills needed to minister effectively. Effective communication of the Word through preaching and teaching is essential. Students may focus on pastoral ministry, missions ministry, educational ministry, or a variety of para-church ministries, but all are encouraged to learn how to apply their knowledge to any ministry setting.

Developing a desire for life-long learning

God's knowledge is infinite and far beyond the human capacity to master. The truths and wisdom to be found in the Bible are never ending, thus the task of learning must be on-going.

We recognize that no person can master the Bible in a lifetime. Furthermore, the situations and circumstances encountered in ministry today will be very different in the years to come. There will be new and different questions facing us then. It is necessary that our students develop the desire and ability to continue learning in order to face these new challenges. Therefore, the curriculum of New England Bible College is designed to provide the foundation for a lifetime of study.
