The Course
This course is part of the Certificate in Christian Ministry Foundations as offered through the NEBCS Church Equipping Institute. The certificate includes the following 4 courses: Biblical Theology, Disciplemaking, Spiritual Formation, and Apologetics. Students may take this course as a stand alone OR complete all four courses and be rewarded the certificate. Description: This course helps students learn to read and study Scripture as an overarching storyline that gives shape to the Christian life and ministry. Students will explore various themes, narratives, and crucial biblical passages as they unfold across the metanarrative of both testaments.
What you’ll learn in this course:

To identify major themes that help tie the story of Scripture together.

How to accurately read the key stories, narratives, and passages along which God’s restoration work unfolds.

To view your life through the lens of the biblical storyline so you can more fully engage your calling to be a part of God’s redemptive activity.
What you’ll do in this course:

Read through the book titled, From Eden to the New Jerusalem: An Introduction to Biblical Theology. This book is readable, interesting, and insightful. It is less than 200 pages.

Attend the sessions: 6 sessions in total, where conversations and teaching will take place based upon the book readings.

Complete a few short reflection writing exercises to help you process the material.

Develop a more solid awareness and grasp on the Bible’s restoration story as it unfolds around us.
Become more confident in understanding and teaching/sharing Scripture.
Refine your theology, motivation, and approach to various ministry areas (missions, caring for the poor, sharing your faith and etc) so you can be more fully aligned with God’s redeeming works.
Dr. Daniel Moore holds a Ph.D. in Biblical Studies with an emphasis on Old Testament, and currently serves as a professor and the Dean of Academics at NEBCS. He is dedicated to showing that rigorous biblical scholarship and life-giving ministry are mutually enriching. His approach to teaching and academics is shaped by extensive experience in youth ministry, church planting, church revitalization, local church leadership, prisoner education, and international missions teaching.

Attendance, assigned readings, 1-2 reflective assignments
Highlights of CEI Program

Students can take CEI courses as an audit - no reading or work required, but to maximize learning, completing required work is suggested.

Students can take CEI courses for 1-credit/course by attending all class sessions (unless otherwise arranged with professor) and completing all required reading and assignments.

Students can receive 3 college credits/course by completing further work assigned by the professor. (Students should state this intention and make arrangements with the professor as early as possible in the course).

Students who choose not to submit assignments, but still attend all class sessions for each course, can receive a Personal Development Certificate.
