Serving others is a profound joy, but it can also feel heavy and isolating at times. Whether you're directing a women's ministry, leading a Bible study, or serving in another capacity, you are often the one faithfully pouring out.

NEBCS has designed an Equipping Cohort for Women to give you the robust biblical foundation and practical leadership frameworks required for a lifetime of healthy, confident ministry.

The Cohort Experience: You Were Not Meant to Minister Alone

When you enroll in the Certificate in Biblical Ministry for Women, you are joining a dedicated cohort of peers.

You will move through all four courses together in sequence, building deep trust and shared wisdom along the way.

Rhythms That Fit Your Life

We recognize the demands of ministry, work, and family. The cohort is structured with a manageable workload, including life-giving reading (about half a book per week) and assignments designed to help you apply what you’re learning in your real ministry setting.

Mentorship & Support

The dedicated Cohort Directors, who are trained in mentor-coaching, will walk with your group through the entire 12-credit journey, offering open office hours and helping you connect the dots between your coursework and your specific local church context.

Bi-Weekly Zoom Sessions

The cohort gathers live for each course via Zoom every other week. These sessions are not lectures; they are guided discussions, real-world case studies, and collaborative problem-solving opportunities.

Ministry Triads

You will be paired with two other women in your cohort for ongoing accounability, encouragement, and prayer over the course of your year together.

An In-Person Retreat

Our cohort year closes with a three-day, in-person retreat in Maine, creating intentional space to end this journey together. Nestled between forest and ocean, Maine offers a peaceful backdrop for rest, reflection, and connection.

During this retreat, you will get to meet in-person your fellow cohort members and directors, engage in rich conversation, and be reminded that you are not alone. You are stepping forward together as a community of women who are committed to growing in God's Word and serving His Church together.

WM-101

Ministry Leadership & the Healthy Leader

Serving as the vital foundation for our cohort program, this introductory course establishes the principle that effective ministry flows from a healthy, Christ-centered life. Students will focus on setting healthy, sustainable rhythms of rest, prayer, and personal health to guard against burnout—habits intended to sustain them through this year of learning and growing together. Because ministry also demands practical skills, the course additionally equips leaders in vision-casting, recruiting volunteers, building healthy teams, and managing conflict biblically.

Biblical Interpretation & Communication

This course equips women with the tools to confidently and accurately study the biblical text and communicate it clearly in various ministry settings. It merges foundational hermeneutics (inductive Bible study, genre analysis, and historical context) with introductory teaching methods. A special emphasis is placed on examining the narratives, roles, and theology of women in Scripture, providing a robust biblical framework for women's contributions to the church. Students will learn how to extract the author's intended meaning and move from textual study to developing structured, expositional messages for Bible study and retreats.

Relational Discipleship and

Christian Growth

Designed to equip leaders for disciple-making in contemporary contexts, this course explores how deep spiritual growth and Christlike maturity occur within Christian community. Students will examine the practical differences between discipleship, mentoring, and teaching, focusing on how to guide women toward enduring faith and lasting multiplication. Coursework covers creating environments for growth, asking developmental questions, and building reproducible disciple-making strategies within the local church.

Compassionate Care: Ministering to People in Pain

Women in ministry are often the first responders to crisis, trauma, and deep suffering within the congregation. This course develops a biblical theology of suffering and equips leaders with the foundational skills of compassionate ministry care. Students will learn active, empathetic listening, identify the "dos and don'ts" of responding to acute pain, and establish healthy boundaries, including understanding exactly when and how to refer others to seek appropriate professional help.
