Spiritual Formation & Discipleship

An exploration of spiritual formation by examining the Scriptures as well as historic and contemporary spiritual practices of the Christian faith. The course also helps students develop a solid and informed foundation for growth in personal discipleship in pursuit of a well-lived life as a follower of Jesus Christ.

How Did We Get Our Bibles?

In a world where the authority and reliability of Scripture is constantly under attack, it is important to understand the Bible’s credentials. This course addresses the Bible’s claims about itself, the formation of the Old and New Testaments, the differing authors and genres of the Bible, the process of Canonization, the history of Biblical translation, and much more. The end result of taking this course will be confidence regarding the trustworthy, secure, and God-inspired nature of Sacred Scripture.

Introduction to Biblical Greek 1

Introduction to the New Testament’s language. Greek is a doorway to deeper understanding of all the New Testament writings. This course takes up the Greek alphabet and the basics of grammar and vocabulary, leading to a basic competence in translation.

(Prerequisite: LN 111&112/511&512) This course offers students the opportunity to put their new knowledge of biblical Hebrew into use reading, studying, and interpreting select passages of the Old Testament in its original language.

Intro to Preaching & Public Speaking

This course provides the opportunity for the student to learn how to effectively communicate publicly. It will help the student learn how to prepare lessons and speeches, and present their material clearly and appealingly, providing them opportunities to practice with constructive comments from their peers, instructor, and professionals (teachers, professors, and pastors).

Denominations, churches, and pastors approach pastoral ministry from a variety of perspectives. This course guides students through an examination of Scripture, church history and confessions, and practical ministry concerns to develop a well-rounded theology of pastoring. Students will be better equipped to pursue an informed, integrated, and faithful approach to pastoral ministry. This course is ideally taken prior to Pastoral Theology in Practice: Pastoral Care and Ministry
