COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
Introduction to Preaching and Public Speaking

A practical course that introduces students to the basic features of effective communication skills frequently required in ministry settings. Students will assess the importance of honoring God and the listener through the communication act. The primary focus will be practical and will include learning to both prepare and deliver the oral communication event with emphasis upon organization, audience analysis and adaptation, and nonverbal communication.
Life of the Leader

3 Credit hours
What does it mean to live a fully integrated life as a leader in Christian ministry? In what ways did Jesus’ life portray the ideal leader? This course will help students derive their views and ideals of what the life of the leader entails by constructing a biblical and theological perspective of leadership upon which practical, real-world leadership.
Pastoral Care and Ministry

This course is designed to look at the “nuts and bolts” of pastoral ministry, stressing what a pastor should be and do. The student will learn how to officiate and create various kinds of services such as weddings, funerals, and so on. There will also be discussion of the basics of visitation, care, and leadership. Also included will be the ongoing sharing of the student’s personal devotional walk, as well as some case-study investigations.
Basic Biblical Counseling

3 Credit hours
This course will examine counseling from a Biblical perspective. God has placed in the Bible solutions for human problems and needs, and provides the keys for successful and contented living. Believers taking this course will learn how to become effective Biblical counselors for basic spiritual and emotional needs.
